Colette Samson is a glass artist, working primarily in fused glass techniques such as kiln casting, fritography, and kiln carving. Her work seeks to evoke an emotion, a memory, to reflect nature in colour, shape, and texture. Her latest series Limestone Barrens of the Great Northern Peninsula takes inspiration from her recollections of the landscape of her native Newfoundland. Colette creates her pieces with a practical use in mind, although, most collectors choose to display her pieces for the artworks they are. She trained under world renowned glass artists Jayne Persico (Hazelton, Pennsylvania), and Michael Dupille (Seattle, Washington). From Dupille she learned first hand the technique of “painting with powdered glass” or fritography pioneered by him. Colette herself has imparted her knowledge in the past through seminars and workshops, including the College of North Atlantic, Newfoundland. Her pieces are in private collections nationally and internationally, both in use and on display.
