Diane Cote

Diane Cote is a visual artist working in a variety of media, though scratchboard engraving, oils, and pen and ink remain her favourites. Recently returned from living abroad for many years, she credits her renewed and greater appreciation for the unspoiled beauty of Atlantic Canada as the main source of inspiration for her work. She captures the peace and solitude common in the rural villages and coastal areas of Nova Scotia where her heart has always been. The details on worn wooden boards and buoys that speak of the sea and fish tales, delicate feathers of the wildlife perched on a post singing in the crisp morning air ... scratched from black into colour and life, nostalgic and familiar.

Diane remembers distinctly starting to sketch at age 4 and never stopping though she gave preference for many years to a career in administration. In 1999 she discovered the art of scratchboard engraving at Geilenkirchen, Germany, that led to her fascination with the medium which continues to this day. Diane is largely self taught.

Now retired in Nova Scotia and focusing in her art, Diane is quickly gaining recognition and representation in galleries throughout the Maritimes.
