Robert MacKay

Robert MacKay is a painter who has worked in watercolour and pastel and his current medium of choice is acrylic. Being Nova Scotian he cites the Atlantic ocean as a major influence and inspiration, so it is no surprise he paints mostly seascapes.
Robert chooses a very deliberate colour palette consisting of a warm and a cool version of each primary colour plus two earth tones. This has the effect of balancing the colours and embuing light into the subject which he purposedly singles out allowing space around rock formations, coastal outcrops and shorelines.
All these techniques together achieve bright, peaceful, and disctinctly Nova Scotian scenes.

Robert started painting at a young age, he is largely self-taught though he has taken numerous courses and workshops over the years from many accomplished Maritime artists. He initially focused on portrait painting, later switching to painting landscapes.

Robert has exhibited throughout the province of Nova Scotia.
